Cornucopia offers a number of on-going programs.  Their purpose is to effect meaningful change in the lives of our residents.  Scholarships are offered for graduating students who want to attend college; pre-employment workshops help sharpen skills and educate in job search; English language classes give non-English speakers a way to integrate into the larger community and help to improve employment possibilities; after school programs make homework help and tutoring available to our students.

In the fall of 2010 Cornucopia launched the Step Ahead Scholarship Program. Scholarships of up to $1000 are offered to both high school seniors and adult re-entry students at ten family properties throughout Southern California. In addition to the grants, applicants are shepherded through the application and enrollment process, steered to further sources of financial aid and assisted in applying for funds.

Employment workshops are offered annually to all residents. Staff work one-on-one with the residents teaching resume writing, interviewing skills, and computer job search skills. Building a sense of competence and self esteem are also vital parts of the program.

Students are offered an after school program combining homework help, tutoring, and enrichment activities. On-site coordinators work to give our kids the individual attention they may not get in a classroom.

After a successful start at Cienega Gardens Apartments Cornucopia is eager to expand the English as a Second Language program to several other properties in an effort to help residents learn basic English skills. Certified instructors help residents reach their goals of passing the citizenship test, helping their children with homework, and plugging into their communities, all in the comfort of their local community rooms.
